What is a PHA I hear you ask? It stands for poly hydroxy acids.

It is a new kind of acid that is amazing when it comes to exfoliating the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) can sometimes be too harsh for those with sensitive skin types. PHAs however, are the perfect alternative.

Sensitivity

Using AHAs and BHAs every day can potentially over sensitise your skin because the skin barrier can’t keep up with that much exfoliation. As a result of this, the skin can become compromised. This is even if you don’t have sensitive skin to begin with.  It is important to know this because those who are using Vitamin A (retinol) as part of their skincare routine, the retinol speeds up cellular turnover for a smoother skin surface. This therefore speeds up the natural exfoliation process.

Too much exfoliation = increased skin sensitivity

What makes PHAs different?

PHAs are not only great at exfoliating the skin, they are amazing at hydrating the skin too. They are gentle on the skin and suitable for everyone – including those with sensitive skin. PHAs are made up of bigger molecules and don’t penetrate as deep into the skin as far as AHAs or BHAs do. Instead, they exfoliate the surface of the skin making sure that the skin barrier isn’t disrupted on a regular basis.

Introducing Press & Glow

Press & Glow contains 5.5% PHA gluconolactone and is surrounded by molecules that attract water which are super hydrating. They help to soothe the skin which is important when it comes to the process of exfoliating.

Prickly pear extract is a natural enzyme activator. It helps to promote a youthful cell renewal process and boost the natural exfoliation enzymes. This product is perfect to use alongside your retinol or retinal (vitamin A) as they also boost cell regeneration from the lower layers of the skin, while Press & Glow restores the top layers. This mean that exfoliation is regulated in every layer of the skin.

Aloe Vera adds the calming factor to Press & Glow. It reduces the risk of irritation and also helps with retaining any moisture in the skin. Aloe Vera will also reduce dryness and prevent any free radical damage.

Acai extract contains essential fatty acids and vitamins. The Acai berry helps to boost blood circulation and reduce inflammation, again protecting the skin from free radical damage.

Benefits of PHAs and Press & Glow
