My spots have made a comeback. What can I do?
Just what we need with everything else going on in the world – a spot, or a breakout.
As our skin is becoming more dehydrated during these winter months and the change in the atmosphere, our skin can start to produce more sebum (oil) than normal. This can then block your pores and result in an outbreak of spots.
What products can be used to prevent this?
Salicylic Acid
We cannot tell you enough how amazing Salicylic acid is when it comes to breakouts and oil production. It unclogs your pores and shouldn’t irritate your skin.
For at home use, we would recommend the Medik8 Clarifying Foam. It contains Salicylic and Mandelic acid and it is deeply purifying while lightly exfoliates the skin. This foaming cleanser also has the anti-inflammatory Niacinamide which calms down any redness or soreness from your blemishes. With all of these amazing ingredients included in one bottle, you would think that it would cause some irritation to your skin but it is the complete opposite. Your skin is left cool, refreshed and thoroughly cleansed without feeling dry or tight. We would recommend using this product morning and night.
Retinol (Vitamin A)
Another firm favourite and what we like to call ‘a miracle in a bottle’ would be the use of Retinol (Vitamin A). While this is an amazing anti-ageing ingredient and can help with scarring and pigmentation, it is also great for acne-prone skin types and blemishes. Retinol helps to decongest pores and regulate sebum production for a clearer looking complexion. Retinol is a night time product and it has time release technology within which means that the retinol is delivered to the deeper layers of the skin gradually throughout the night for more effective results.
Make up
The make up products that you are using can play a part in this. You need to make sure you are using the right foundation for your skin during these winter months. You want something that is going to enhance your skin and conceal blemishes. Forget about layering dense and matte products onto your skin as this can result in breakouts and make your skin look worse than it actually is. Instead, use a light-reflective fluid base that conceals and brightens the skin.
